Utility collectors
Yesterday while I was rummaging around into my cupboard, I found an old Mandarina Duck knapsack (when I first came to work here, I discovered that the line was called Utility!).
It brought back many memories. Do you have any?
It all began when I was reading The Feng Shui Art of Space Clearing and realized that I was late with mine!
Suddenly a shiny label popped out with the old Mandarina Duck logo on it! I was afraid that my mother had thrown it out, as I had used it until it fell apart. Nevertheless, there it was, buried under a pile of half-forgotten colorful pashimas and scarves with prints from the 60s.
In Italy it was a must-have for girls in the 80s and 90s. Well, back then, I was still a girl and my 30-year-old cousin introduced me to the bag. As most girls of her age at that time, she was a Utility Collector. She had at least five different models (from the classic knapsack to the travel bag) with matching wallets that she would show off on every occasion. The ensemble gave her a very casual look.
How nostalgic! The polyurethane velour of my classic knapsack, which had witnessed some great times, was completely ruined! I thought that the cracks were caused by my nails but when I asked about it in the company, they told me a secret, the cracks were caused by being left in the dark.
After my space clearing, I went on a shopping spree and have already filled up the empty spaces in my cupboard.
I wish that I could be gentler on my bank account instead of always being like Becky Bloomwood in Confessions of a Shopaholic.
If you still have any Mandarina Duck knapsacks or Utility bags, please send me photos!
Or perhaps you even have photos of yourself carrying one of them back in the 90s?
