Mandarina & the Arts: search for art
While I was in the marketing office today, I looked through Search, a magazine on works by architects, designers and emerging artists.
It has a very modern look even though it belongs to Search for Art published by Mandarina Duck, which won the “most innovative project” award in the Guggenheim Enterprise and Culture Awards of 2000!
Digging into an old database, I found a broom-shaped egg holder, a sheep-shaped backpack, a carpet-bed, images from metropolitan streets and colorful mural paintings.
All these projects were part of “Where is Art?”, a competition promoted by the Search for Art Foundation that wanted to discover a lateral vision of art that went beyond stylistic frameworks, in keeping with the philosophy of lateral thinking.
The participants were definitely not traditionalists!
Gilles Cenazandotti’s mannequin sculptures were installed in major European cities and their chocolate and vanilla aromas led to the contest posters and registration forms. And at night, a car (with the Search for Art logo) zipped through crowded city areas showing images from the Task campaign! A forerunner of the very modern guerrilla marketing!
Breaking the mold, innovation and irony are some of the values that Mandarina Duck has always communicated through its art.
