Paris street style: bobo chic
I often go to Paris to look for new ideas.
I never miss out on a tour of luxury stores including Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Martin Margiela.
Along with big fashion names, Colette is a great reference point for discovering new talent. It offers design, graphic arts, music and cinema news, as well as mentioning many temporary exhibitions. Such as Josephine Meckseper’s installations on the relationships between media, fashion and advertising.
Marais, the old Jewish quarter, is the ideal place to feel the street energy of Paris.
It’s a crazy mix of canvas, bamboo, linen, shantung, cashmere and synthetic fabrics, as well as fuchsia and carmine red, purple and yellow, plaid and polka-dot. Silky volants by Lanvin, wide shoulders by Balenciaga, egg shapes and minimalists cuts from the 60s all mix with jeans, sneakers and over-sized bags.
Among the filles, the style of Isabel Marant has taken hold. It’s inspired by the bobo chic look of Montmartre artists. Wide jackets, leggings and Indian style tunics that create a relaxed allure that’s reminiscent of old Scottish fashion.
Paris means the arts.
And a visit to the Louvre and Les Arts Decoratifs is a must. Right now, there’s an exhibition on the French couture genius Christian Lacroix.Being inspired by the Great Masters has helped me to organise all this new input. Fabrics, shapes, colours and new materials have all been filed away in my mind and will evolve into prototypes for our new collection.
