Doctors without borders, art without boundaries
The beautiful photos you see here are the ones that accompany my everyday life. They make precious the corridors of the Mandarina headquarters. These are profound images; travel snapshots that have captured the soul of the places where they were taken.
These photos come from the NOCONFINES project promoted by Paolo Trento. This initiative comes from his deep passion for travel, which he defines as ”A way to see beyond our horizons and demolish the barriers between cultures, populations and political systems. To learn about everyday life and economical and political situations in foreign countries. To bring home their triumphs and their tragedies in a suitcase full of memories and reflections.”
In 2000, we wanted to promote the new Frog line, which was born from this approach to traveling and felt that it made sense to embrace the cause of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). People who work for MSF are very conscientious travelers. They move every day while saving the lives and bettering the living conditions of thousands of people. This is how the NOCONFINES project began.
The work with MSF was transformed into a tangible and concrete commitment on the part of the company. One percent of a year’s sales income of the Frog line was donated to MSF. However, NOCONFINES was more than just that.
Mandarina Duck asked famous, international photographers to auction off their travel photos for charity. This project was launched with a traveling exhibition that started in London and then went to Madrid, Paris, Berlin and Milan in May and June of 2000.
This experience was transformed into a visual travel diary filled with testimonies given by great artists who generously shared their personal experience and world vision with us.
The goals of NOCONFINES were to promote a new concept of conscientious travel and to help MSF get to people who needed their help. We hope and believe that we had achieved just that.
