Eco-fitness: sports becomes green

Simple recipes, places to visit, green things to do. The project tries to raise awareness on eastern philosophy: nourish the spirit while rediscovering the little things of everyday life. Very zen!
Perhaps, I’ve found a good reason to go to the gym: you can generate electric energy while riding a bike! It’s so cool to control both the calories you burn and the watts you produce. Twenty minutes of hard pedaling and you can recharge your iPod! Too bad, there are only eco-gyms in Oregon and Hong Kong.
Anyway, there are plenty of choices for eco-sustainable workouts in Italy!
Firstly, there’s a public bio-pool in Monclassico, near Trento in the Alps, you can do eco-swimming with no chlorine. Along with reducing the impact of this noxious gas on the freshwater eco-system, it’s a cure-all for the skin!
If you’re not fond of running, then there’s eco-running. Of course going around parks picking up litter is very useful. And it’ll make you an “engaged athlete”, no one can deny you that! Good news: your physical performance will no longer be a consideration for participating in the Green Race (you can even walk)! You just need to know something about nature.
I’m going to start training now in anticipation of the 2009 event!
Perhaps my home-to-work route is too long. I could try starting with some green gymnastics. A British trend has just arrived in Italy: hoeing, pruning and planting flowerbeds with a personal trainer… Not a bad idea. It may be of benefit to my green thumb!
