Duck Day: when ducks become competitive!

We already know that ducks are very celebrated birds but I’ve discovered that a Duck Day actually exists!
Last Sunday, the Thames looked like a giant bathtub. The only thing missing was the foam!

Two hundred and fifty thousand plastic ducks (a Guinness world record) competed in the Great British Duck Race, a one-km race from Hampton Court Bridge to Albany Reach with spectators on all sides.

Both adults and youngsters adopted ducks for two pounds each and tried to win big prizes while contributing to Water Aid, the Down’s Syndrome Association and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

And what about all that plastic in the river? Don’t worry, it’s all eco-friendly. The organizers worked with the Environment Agency to ensure that everything was cleaned up.
