City etiquette

As we all know, when we go on vacation in the summertime, so does our usual routine. This, however, should not be the same for our good manners!
Above all, for people who remain in town.

In Bologna, it seems that city etiquette, as seen in New York Magazine isn’t trendy, yet. City etiquette tries to domesticate the jungle-like behavior that tends to explode in the summer months.

The few poor souls left wandering around town with iPods in their ears in a catatonic state - probably due to the Saharan heat - are simply oblivious to their surroundings.

The situation would be different if the Marie Claire ”proposal” on city etiquette came into effect.

We all get an urban license with an initial score of 20 points:

• you lose 10 points for incorrect use of MP3 players (ear-splitting music, total indifference towards friends and family, hit-and-run accidents due to temporary deafness, etc.);
• you lose 6 points for indiscriminate, fixed staring at people you don’t know as if you were a CIA agent;
• you lose 20 points for surrealistic parking (like triple parking, sidewalk parking, etc.)

It won’t take long for people to start losing their licenses! I won’t go on anymore. It’s just rhetorical venting. But, should something like this really take effect in Bologna, the streets would be empty!
