Autumn books

Do you have any alternatives to watching the same old TV programs?
I’m building a tall stack of books on my coffee table for those long nights and Sundays in autumn!

The Road HomeOn top is The Road Home by Rose Tremain, winner of the latest Orange Broadband Prize. It’s a contemporary story about a man named Lev who comes to London from Eastern Europe to get work and send money back to his family. It’s the struggle of a foreigner adapting to the English way of life.

A long way gone - memoirs of a boy soldierThen, I’d like to read A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah. It’s the gripping story of a 12-year-old boy in Sierra Leone whose childhood innocence was destroyed by rebel forces. Well, I have a strong feeling that with a beginning like that, there won’t be a happy ending.

La sombra del vientoSome adrenaline reserves for rainy days!
La Sombra del Viento by Carlos Ruiz Zafòn is a “damned book” of a young boy’s discovery of Barcelona’s esoteric underworld. It’s creepy and a good thriller (not to be read alone!) and just what we need!

For sweet dreams, Rudyard Kipling’s anthology is perfect! The Jungle Books bring you into the magic of the Golden Triangle with stories of gurus and wild animals set in an atmosphere of exotic spices.

And now Hamlet’s query: which one to read first?
Give me a suggestion please before my stack falls over.
