An Apple in New York City

Good morning readers. My name is Massimo Venturini and I am the Production Manager for MD. My job often takes me around the world, so Rossana has asked me to share some of my experiences with you on Duck Side. Flights tend to be long, so I’ll have time to tell you something about my job and my “discoveries”.

A typical pictureI recently traveled to New York to collect the Travel & Leisure Design Award 2007 for our Y’s collection and to work on an upcoming project, which I can’t tell you about just yet.

The Big Apple has always fascinated me, the melting pot, the surreal atmosphere, the frenetic life (“The city that doesn’t sleep”, as Frank used to sing). I had a marvelous view from my hotel room. We stayed at the Mandarin Hotel (nice coincidence) which is located on top of the Time Warner Center at the southwestern corner of Central Park.
I’m quite fond of technology, especially Macintosh. Whenever I happen to be in New York, I can’t wait to go down 5th Avenue to the corner of Central Park and be swallowed up by the Apple.

Apple Store - New YorkThe Apple Store in New York looks like a big transparent cube with its long-standing logo hanging in the centre. Going down the escalator is like taking Morpheus’s red pill. You’ll find yourself in Wonderland. Whoever has visited one, knows what I’m talking about.

Greg, a smiling, hefty guy, was my “dedicated” guide. He looked as if he had the whole day to dedicate just to me. He was able to answer all my questions and give me technical details about every possible type of iSomething. I really should wiki him under customer satisfaction. I ended up I limited myself to only one new hard disk drive, which was of course pearly white and the latest model (I can’t help buying “top of the line” stuff. Luckily, I don’t go shopping too often)

New YorkDuring a break in the Apple WebCafe, I surfed for some information on “A Chorus Line”, which we were seeing that evening.
Broadway musicals are always cool in NYC and “Dance: Ten; Looks: Three” (aka “Tits and Ass” to friends) is still my favorite song from the musical perhaps because it’s always done by a generously curved actress.

I won’t bother you with the business details, apart from the usual lines at the airport amongst shoeless passengers at the security checks (now, those poor Americans even take their shoes off in Italian airports, which gets them some strange looks from the locals).

You’ll be hearing from me again after my next journey!
