Mandarina Duck Cell Phone: the woman-oriented phone

October 31st, 2007 - posted by Ducky

Hello? So, did you hear rumors on the web about the launching of a brand new Mandarina Duck cell phone?
Well, guess what, it hasn’t been launched yet!
That was until yesterday. Its official presentation to the press took place yesterday at Shu Uemura, a temple dedicated to women’s cosmetics. This choice of location highlights the feminine aspect of the new phone.

Mandarina Duk cell phoneRing, Ring, Ring. I dare any woman to find her phone in her bag within the first ten rings. Despite the fact that bags have an inner pocket especially for cell phones, they always end up lost in the mess at the bottom the bag.
Well, thanks to a funky clip on the Mandarina Duck cell phone, it’s easy to use and can be hooked directly onto a bag.

The brand new Mandarina Duck cell phone collection comes in three feminine colors: cherry red, lilac and lime green.

My favorite color is cherry red. What’s yours?

Made in collaboration with Alcatel Cellular Phones, the Mandarina Duck Cell Phone will be on sale in Italy starting in December 2007.

Update:

Reading your comments, I understand that most of you had some problem with the Mandarina Duck Mobile. I call Alcatel to ask how you can solve it, here the answer:
“Dear customers,

we apologise for the difficulties you found in using the mobile phone, even if we always try our best to make userfriendlyness the key point for our products.
As the memory of the mobile phone is quite small and suitable for only 1 song, we strongly suggest you to buy a MICRO SD card, a simple, very small memory card available in all electronics equipment shops (from 128 MB up to 1GB - 1 GB memoy card allows to store about 120 songs - ) that you can insert in the slot available on your phone (see instructions for details).
Then, you need to connect your mobile phone to a PC through the USB cable you will find in the packaging; the PC need to first register the mobile phone as a “new device”, so connect the mobile phone to the PC to allow the PC recognize the mobile phone; as you will connect the cable to PC and mobile phone, 4 options will appear on mobile display. You will need to chose the first one, called “mass storage”. Wait for the PC to find the new device and recognize it, then disconnect the two items. Then pls connect them together again, always chosing “mass storage” as option on mobile phone.
Go into your PC, find the MP3 file of a song you would like to upload on the phone and click on it with right key and select “send to..”. The PC will be able to recognise the mobile phone as a memory device (like a USB key), so it will call it “removable disk”. Chose this option and the PC will copy the song on the MICRO SD card.
Repeat this operation with all the songs you would like to insert paying attention to maximum memory capacity.
To see the results of these operations, disconnect the mobile phone from the PC, go into the “media album” of your mobile, chose the option “memory card” and you will find the files you copied on the mobile phone. To play a song, simply select it and chose “play” from “options” of the “media album” or go to the music player, chose “update songs” and then select “all songs”, find the song you would like to play, select “play” and have fun!
Do not hesitate to contact us for further clarifications and thanks again for purchasing Mandarina Duck Mobile Pack”.

Happy All Hallows Eve

October 30th, 2007 - posted by Ducky

Halloween is the contracted form of All Hallows Eve. This is one of the many facts that you can find out about the famous American holiday if you read An American Holiday an American History, a guide to Celtic events.
Due to globalization, Halloween is now becoming popular in Italy and is seen as a bizarre, out-of-season version of Carnivale, which is the Italian Mardi Gras.

The eve of the “return of all souls” can be celebrated at home with Jack-o-lanterns illuminated by candles.
I can tell you that, in my experience, pumpkin carving is almost impossible! So this year I think I’ll buy one of these. They’re much more functional and even fireproof!

For your Halloween party at home, I’d suggest this Harry Potter look but try not to make it too kitsch!

Trick or treat anyone?

Travel advice from Hong Kong

October 22nd, 2007 - posted by Massimo Venturini

I’m often go to Hong Kong for work. Every time I get off from the plane I collide with the charming and both terrific atmosphere of such a contradictory city.

And the contradictions are unlimited. There are amazing landscapes of tropical nature mixed with cement masses rising up to the skyline. You can see clear skies (just after a typhoon) or wait for days for the sun to come out.

When you land in Hong Kong, forget that you are European or American and let the life of this city overwhelm you, along with its hard-and-fast rules, its rhythms, its odors and its people.
Gaseous emissions and gastrointestinal rumblings mix with 7-star restaurants, charming Rolls Royces and Ferraris just delivered from Maranello. When in Rome, do as the Romans do!

Utility collectors

Yesterday while I was rummaging around into my cupboard, I found an old Mandarina Duck knapsack (when I first came to work here, I discovered that the line was called Utility!).

It brought back many memories. Do you have any?

It all began when I was reading The Feng Shui Art of Space Clearing and realized that I was late with mine!

Mandarina and Art

October 15th, 2007 - posted by Roberto Mineo

Mandarina Duck has always had a connection with contemporary art, which has been the inspiration for the moods our collections.

Alberto BurriOur collections are filled with experimentation, new materials and unusual combinations, similar to paintings by Burri, which can be seen in the show “Burri, The measure of balance” at the Magnani Rocca Foundation in Parma until 2 December 2007.

Rebecca HornAn alternative but concrete vision of the modern world is being celebrated at MAMbo in Bologna until 4 November. Nam June Paik exalts daily life and modern icons such as Tv and Radio, while Rebecca Horn uses vinyl disks in an unusual way.

Andy Wahrol - MarylinsAndy Warhol and David LaChapelle have each interpreted Marylin Monroe, the quintessential pop icon, in their own way.
The former - “Pop Art! 1956-1968“, showing in Rome from 26 October 2007 - created the now famous image where colour and repetition are the main themes.

David La Chapelle - MarylinThe latter - “David LaChapelle“, at the Royal Palace in Milan until 6 January 2008 - created a desecrated vision of the icon. Starting with Warhol’s work, David LaChapelle offers his own unabashed vision as if he’s challenging us to “look beyond“.

Mandarina does this too by always offering its own vision of things.

Panama, inside the hat

October 11th, 2007 - posted by Ducky

PanamaPanama: the location of the latest Mandarina Duck store.

It’s the economic and business crossroads of American. It’s a magical kingdom where you can find anything. Its skyline stands against luxuriant tropical overgrowth. You can come across farmers on oxcarts passing by ultra-modern banks. Amongst its extinct volcanoes, rise 365 atolls (one per day ). Its beaches are no less than those of the Caribbean and the Maldives.
